Doreen picked herself up from the ground, dusted herself off and carefully straightened the sleeves of her jacket.

She ignored the sucking gurgling noise of the girl still lying twitching on the ground at her feet, seemingly oblivious to the crawling mass of spiders that enveloped her supine frame completely. Each was deliberately dragging sticky lines of silk around her body, gradually immobilizing her where she lay.

"You should be glad you called me 'Spider Fingers', and not 'Ravenous Raven Beak' or something a little more deadly."

Doreen stopped preening herself, satisfied that her tumble in the dust had left no permanent marks and considered her erstwhile attacker.

"You really are useless as a bully, aren't you?"

She realized talking to the now barely moving cocoon before her was practically useless, and considered leaving her laying there, watching the patch of white fibrous fabric suck in and blow out of the hole where the girl's mouth would be.

Vengeful though she was, Doreen was no murderer.

Snapping her fingers, she sent the spiders scurrying off into the woods, and finding a stick beside the walking path she knelt and unceremoniously poked a hole through the web covering the girl's mouth. She waited a moment until the frantic gasping for air had subsided and then peeled back the non-woven fabric to uncover the girl's nose and eyes.

The eyes glaring up at her were lit with terror and hatred.

"I would strongly suggest, when you do finally find your way out of this mess, that you keep what happened here tonight to yourself. No one would believe you anyways, and you'll just wind up with your own nickname at school, maybe 'Crazy Dana' or something similar. Not that I'd mind you getting chased and bullied for a change, but whatever," she poked some holes in the mesh binding one arm tightly to Dana's body,"you do whatever you think is most prudent."

Doreen knelt down and leaned her face so close to Dana's that the girl froze wide eyed as Doreen whispered.

"However if you ever, ever speak to me again, I promise you I'll send the spiders that bite to visit you in your bed. Don't think I won't."

She didn't wait for a response, but rose, straightened her jacket once again, and turning on her heel strode off into the night.

She called back over her shoulder as she disappeared into the shadows between the lamplights.

"Whatever you do, don't think about how you used to call me 'Rat Face'."
